Tips for teaching hearing impaired learners
When I had a hearing impaired learner in my classroom for the first time, I had no clue on what to do. Mainly because my school focuses on communication. Students go there to learn how to speak English and most of our activities are orally, so you can see how confused I was. I had no previous notice about that, so I couldn`t prepare myself in advance. I thought it was impossible to teach that student, first because I don`t know Brazilian sign language enough to have a conversation, second, I had no idea (one more time) on what to do. I didn`t pay attention that what I needed the most was try adapting all my activities so that the student wouldn`t feel left out. Therefore, that`s what I did. This process was a class to class struggle. It didn`t happen so fast. But in the end of the year, I had a good feeling about this student`s learning process. During the semester I never excluded the student if I had a group work or pair work. We had an interpreter in class which helped a
